Orientation Program 2019
A six-day Orientation Programme was organized for the 4th Batch of Post-Graduate Programme in Management during July 5-10, 2019. The purpose of the Orientation programme was to familiarize students with IIM Jammu systems, processes, procedures and general rules so as to make them comfortable and adapt faster to the new environment. Students got acclimatized to the campus environment and became aware of the physical facilities. The orientation programme also encouraged an open communication between the students and faculty, staff and key activity heads of the Institute. As part of the orientation programme, students started their day with early morning yoga session to ensure their mental and physical well-being. For the first two days, students were addressed by eminent speakers from Government Administration and Industry. Next two days, an intensive outbound programme was organized to help students know each other and develop an appreciation for team work while getting opportunities to explore their leadership qualities. The outbound activities were aimed at the major task of assimilating the new energy, fresh intellect and rich diversity of cultures that the new students brought in the campus. A few preparatory sessions were also conducted especially to help students with non commerce background to get the foundation module in quantitative techniques, accounting and case method pedagogy.
Coincidentally the union budget and commencement of IIM Jammu orientation programme were scheduled to take place on the same day. Hence, a live budget discussion session also took place on 5th July 2019.
The formal inauguration of the orientation programme includes, Welcome Address by Prof. B.S. Sahay, Director IIM Jammu and Key Note Address by Shri Anil Agarwal, MD & CEO, Cosmos on “India – Leading Economy of the World”, Address by the Guest of Honour, Prof. Manoj Singh Gaur, Director, Indian Institute of Technology Jammu and Inaugural Address by the Chief Guest Shri Milind Shrikant Kamble, Chairman, Board of Governors, IIM Jammu.
Top corporate and bureaucratic leaders shared their experiences and motivated the students during the course of orientation programme. To name a few, Shri Rajeev Karwal, Founder & CEO, Milagrow Business & Knowledge Solutions; Shri Varinder Kumar Verma, Head of Centre of Excellence, Talent Acquisition & Human Resource Transformation, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd.; Shri Rajeev Bhadauria, Managing Partner, Ebullient and Ex-Director Human Resources at Jindal Steel and Power Ltd.; Shri Sanjeev Verma, Divisional Commissioner, Jammu; Shri Pradeep Tandon, President, Jindal Steel and Power Ltd. and Chairman, State Council of FICCI at Chhattisgarh; Shri M.K. Sinha, IG Police Jammu. All the guests met and interacted with the new batch of students.
Valedictory address on “The Secret Life of Organisations” was given by Chief Guest Dr. Shalini Lal, Founder, Infinity OD and Member of Board of Governors, IIM Jammu. On the whole, it was an enriching and illuminating experience for students.-
